How can we help?
|
|
Southern Arizona Laser Vein Institute
(SALVI) can reduce or eliminate the appearance of
unsightly leg veins and broken capillaries. Equipped
with the LaserScope LYRA-i our staff can treat
vascular lesions, spider veins, and red & blue
facial/leg veins in as little as one treatment.

|
Am I a candidate for
successful laser vein treatment?
|
|
Treatment
works best on smaller veins and is effective for most
individuals, including those with dark or tanned skin.
Only with a consultation can your physician determine if
your condition is appropriate for this type of treatment. |
How does a laser work in
eliminating spider veins?
|
 |
|
Producing a
1064nm wavelength, the LYRA-i laser light passes
through the skin and penetrates the targeted vessel.
Almost completely transparent to the rest of the skin, the
laser is highly absorbed in blood, heating up and
coagulating the blood inside the target vein.
Unsupported, these vein walls collapse and seal, later being
absorbed by the body. |
What can I expect with
each treatment?
|
|
Your
physician will start the appointment discussing your medical
history, including any drugs you are currently taking,
determining if there are any factors that may reduce or
impact the safety and/or expected results of the treatment.
To begin the
procedure, the treatment area will be cleaned and a thin
layer of gel will be applied to the skins' surface.
The laser hand-help device will be directed over the subject
vein as the laser energy is delivered to the targeted vein,
which, in many cases, will disappear after a single pass.
Depending on the size of the treatment area, leg vein
sessions will take approximately 30 minutes. |
Is the procedure painful?
|
|
Discomfort
varies depending on the size and location of the vein.
May compare the laser pulse the same as feeling a snap of a
rubber band against the skin.
The
hand-held device is equipped with a cooling tip, providing
additional safety and comfort during the treatment by
lowering the thermal effect on your skin's surface.
You may experience a stinging sensation to moderate
discomfort during the treatment, which resolves immediately
after the treatment is over. In some cases, your
physician may suggest they apply a topical anesthetic cream
that may eliminate much of the discomfort associated with
the treatment. |
What can I expect once
the procedure is done?
|
|
The
appearance of the treated vessels will dramatically change
turning from blue and purple into light red. Some of
the vessels may bulge, however, any inflammation will
disappear within a couple of hours. In some cases, the
treated region will be slightly swollen and tender to the
touch for a day or two.
Redness of the treated
vessels (often resembling a "cat scratch") will
gradually disappear as the healing process occurs, which may
take anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks. Length of healing
time may vary depending on the severity of the veins prior
to treatment.
After
treatment, your physician will discuss any post-operative
treatment regimes, which may include wearing pressure hose,
avoiding certain medication and wearing sunscreen. In
addition, you may be asked to avoid heavy exercise for a
short period after treatment. |
How many treatments
should I need?
|
|
While some
patients may be satisfied after just one treatment, two or
more treatments may be needed to achieve your desired
results. Quantity of treatments varies by the severity
of the veins before treatment. Most physicians can
often diminish or eliminate the appearance of the veins in
as little as one to three treatments. If multiple
treatments are prescribed, appointments will be scheduled
approximately 6 weeks apart. |
How long do the results
last?
|
|
The
treatment is performed on existing vessels, diminishing or
completely eliminating their appearance. However, the
development of new veins cannot be prevented.
Particularly if you body has an underlying vascular problem,
you will most likely require follow-up appointments to treat
future incidents. |
