Remove my veins?
What happens to my circulation if I remove them?
|
|
Varicose veins and spider veins are part of the superficial
vein system. This system returns only 5% to 10% of the
blood flow back to the heart. Varicose veins and spider
veins are diseased and defective veins that are no longer
working. Getting ride of them is not harmful. In fact,
when they are eliminated, the legs usually feel lighter and
more energetic due to the improved circulation. This is
because blood flow has been rerouted to stronger and
healthier veins. The diseased veins are similar to a
traffic jam cause by potholes in the road. Rerouting
traffic onto streets with smoother surfaces will relieve the
congestion simply because the traffic can now move more
efficiently. |
Are the various the
procedures painful?
|
 |
|
Our
skill and experience make the treatments virtually
pain-free. We use FDA approved medications. Side effects
are possible with any procedure or medication but, compared
to traditional hospital surgery for veins, serious side
effects are rare with our advanced techniques. |
How long do the results
last?
|
|
Patients
can enjoy healthier, more attractive, pain-free legs. The
treated veins do not come back but, because varicose vein
disease can sometimes be a chronic condition, no treatment -
not even surgery - can stop new veins from forming in the
future. However, because the initial treatment is so
thorough, any new veins tend to be less severe and are more
easily dealt with should they form. Simple touch-up
treatment can help you enjoy your life free from vein
problems. |

Endovenous Laser Therapy (EVLT)
|
|
|
|
|
Lasers for Endovenous therapy have been used with
success in treating large varicose veins. In a
minimally invasive procedure, a narrow tube is inserted
into the main superficial vein (the saphenous vein) at
the knee, and threaded to the groin, where the saphenous
vein flows into the major deep veins. Laser energy is
used to close a portion of the saphenous vein and thus
interrupt the column of blood causing increased pressure
in the lower leg. |

|
Endovenous Laser Treatment is an effective method of
treating large veins in carefully selected patients and
has been proven to be a great value. The benefits of
EVLT over surgical stripping are quite numerous. It is
a relatively painless procedure and typically takes only
45 minutes to complete. The procedure requires only
local anesthetic and most patients may return to normal
activity immediately. There is little to no scarring. |

|
Also
developed in Europe, Microphlebectomy (also known as
ambulatory phlebectomy) is an advanced and
minimally-invasive method of eliminating large varicose
veins. Performed under local anesthesia in the
comfort of our office, using a specially designed
instrument, the veins are gently removed through tiny
skin openings about the size of a pinhead. Unlike
vein stripping, no stitches are needed and virtually no
scarring occurs with Microphlebectomy. |

Afterwards, compression hose is placed on the leg.
The results are quick and cosmetically pleasing.
There is usually little discomfort afterwards and
relatively no down time. Most patients can return
to work and normal activities within 1 to 2 days. |

Developed
in Europe in the early 1930's, sclerotherapy eliminates
unsightly and embarrassing spider veins of the legs.
Using an extremely fine and nearly painless needle, the
treatment involves injecting a small amount of a
sclerosing solution in to the affected veins. This
causes the veins to gently dry up and become absorbed by
the body's natural healing response. It usually
takes 3 to 5 session to provide the most effective
results. Treated veins gradually disappear over
three to six months. |

|
Because
blood flow is shifted to healthy veins, sclerotherapy
can improve the circulation in the legs. And,
despite all the advancements in laser technology,
sclerotherapy still remains the overwhelming choice of
doctors and patients for spider vein treatment.
Why? Because it is more effective, less expensive
and less painful than any other treatment available. |
