What causes Acne?
|
|
Acne
occurs for a variety of reasons. As oil and bacteria
accumulate, plugging the pores, the skin becomes inflamed
and swells outward forming the familiar whiteheads,
blackheads and pimples. Most commonly seen in teens,
acne can inflict people of many age groups and often times
appears on the face, back, shoulders, neck and chest. |
How can laser treatment
help clear Acne?
|
|
The AURA i, is FDA cleared to treat
facial acne, though it can be used anywhere acne is most
normally present. Laser light pulses are delivered
through the skins surface, triggering the body's natural
bacteria fighting defenses. When targeted by light,
these photosensitive bacteria's kill the problem causing
bacteria, significantly reducing the severity of current and
future breakouts. |
Does Acne laser treatment
really work?
|
|
Clinical
studies found that 91% of patients treated saw their acne
improve by an average of 66%In fact, more recent studies
cited patients showing their acne becoming 81% less sever.
Clinical data suggests that most patients see signs of
improvement after two weeks of twice-weekly treatments with
many patients seeing signs of improvement within the first
week after treatment. And although many patients
continue to improve during the month following treatment,
some patients experience a plateau in their improvement.
Repeated treatments may be necessary to maintain the desired
results. |
What can I expect with
each treatment?
|
|
Your
physician will star the appointment discussing your medical
history, including any drugs you are currently taking,
determining if there are any factors that may reduce or
impact the safety and/or expected results of the treatment.
To begin the
procedure, the treatment area will be cleaned and a thin
layer of gel will be applied to the skins' surface.
Using a brushing motion, your practitioner will glide the
laser hand-held device across the treatment area as the
laser light is pulsed through the skin. Treatment time
will vary depending on the size of the treatment area,
though a full face will frequently take about 20 minutes per
session. |
When should I expect to
see results?

Is the treatment painful?
|
|
Many patients compare each laser pulse to that of feeling
the snap of a rubber band against the skin, though
treatments of active acne lesions may be more uncomfortable.
Your physician may recommend a topical anesthetic be applied
to the skin in order to make the treatments more
comfortable. |
What can I expect once
the treatment is complete?
|
|
Immediately
following the procedure, patients may experience mild to
moderate redness and swelling of the treated area.
This will fade in as little as a couple hours to as much as
a few weeks. Sunscreen should be applied and if you
wish, make-up may be applied immediately following treatment
as the skin's surface is not actually damaged by the laser
light. Please check with your doctor to determined if
your make-up is appropriately formulated for acne sufferers. |
